Laura has been directing youth media and creative arts programs for over ten years. She has worked with teenagers at the Latin American Youth Center in Washington, D.C. producing radio documentaries and a weekly radio show, and with teen parents to create a bilingual telenovella series. She also worked with youth in the Appalachian mountains at Appalshop in Kentucky. While in Appalachia, she started a media program at High Rocks for Girls through which teenage girls explored what it means to grow up as a young woman in the West Virginia mountains. In addition to working with EVC, she works with immigrant teenagers to tell their stories through creative writing and theater at the International High School in Queens.
