Steve Goodman

Executive Director

EVC Founding Director and Executive Director, Steve Goodman, trained as a journalist at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He has produced independent documentaries and has written numerous articles about media and education and recently published Teaching Youth Media: Literacy, Video Production & Social Change (Teachers College Press, 2003). Steve has taught in NYC high schools and designed and taught graduate media education courses at New York University, the University of London Institute of Education, Ohio University/Ohio SchoolNet, and Bank Street College of Education, among others. Documentary makers who have influenced and inspired him include Fred Wiseman, the Maysles brothers, Henry Hampton, Barbara Kopple and of course the talented EVC producers over the years. And in a previous life Steve hung out with a street gang in the South Bronx, lived on a goat farm in southern France, and was a fire fighter in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
