EVC Celebrates Success of "Journeys" Outreach Campaign

Since August, EVC's Community Engagement program has been screening Journeys Through the Red, White & Blue along with the YO-TV producers around New York, Ohio and Massachusetts. In early October, Sheila, Shon, Tidiane and Danny traveled to Ohio for three screenings in Cleveland and Columbus. They also did extensive video outreach, distributing the film to high schools, colleges and community-based organizations throughout the two cities. Ariel, one of the producers, held a very successful screening at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he is currently enrolled as a James Baldwin Scholar. EVC alumni Steven and Devaughn also attended and helped facilitate the Hampshire screening. Around New York City, staff and youth producers screened at approximately 10 high schools (with multiple screenings within each school), 6 colleges and community colleges, and 8 organizations in 4 boroughs.

Highlights include screenings with EVC staff and Journeys producers present for discussion at the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Public Library, the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival High School Program in various NYC high schools and an interview on Teen Talk Radio (WHCR Harlem Community Radio).
