EEP Programs

EVC’s External Education Programs offers multi-day professional development institutes and in-class support for classroom teachers and out-of-school educators. Educators involved in EEP programs can access ongoing support through the use of interactive technology that allows them to communicate with EVC staff other educators using EVC’s methodology and curriculum.

Youth-Powered Video Institute
Based on EVC's 23 years of award-winning youth media programs, this 5-day institute provides pre and in-service teachers and out-of-school educators with a repertoire of proven teaching techniques. Each participant is given a copy of EVC's published curriculum, Youth-Powered Video: A Hands-On Curriculum for Teaching Documentary, containing over 200 pages of standards-based lesson plans, handouts, student journals, and portfolio rubrics and two DVDs that model activities and strategies for effectively facilitating youth produced video projects in classroom and after-school settings. All participants learn basic camerawork, interviewing and digital editing skills through the hands-on experience of producing a short video project. Continual debriefs throughout the week focus on applying skills learned to working with groups of young people.

The 2008 institute will be held from July 14-18; 9:00am-4:00pm daily at EVC, 120 West 30th Street, New York City. Registration fee is $650 for five days of intensive professional development, a copy of EVC’s Youth-Powered Video curriculum, access to EVC online teacher forum and one follow up meeting to assist with program planning.

Adobe Youth Voices
Launched in June 2006, Adobe Youth Voices is Adobe's global signature philanthropy program designed to provide youth in underserved communities with the critical skills they need to become active and engaged members of their communities and the world at large.

Adobe Youth Voices was launched with the help of a unique collaborative of leading youth media nonprofit organizations with strong track records and a common vision, including Educational Video Center; What Kids Can Do, Inc.; Listen Up! Youth Media Network; Arts Engine, Inc.; and iEARN.

In the pilot year of Adobe Youth Voices EVC provided multi-day institutes and media mentor support for twenty-six schools and out-of-school programs in Seattle, the Bay Area, New York, London, Bangalore and Delhi/Noida. Over one hundred video projects were produced. For Adobe Youth Voices Year Two, EVC is facilitating a study group with the London Adobe Youth Voices sites to deepen coaching practices and understanding of the goals for the youth and adult participants of AYV.
