EVC Stop and Frisk Film Wins “Media for a Just Society Award”

Updated: Dec 23, 2021

EVC youth producer Raelene Holmes-Andrews will be accepting the award on behalf of her team at a ceremony on October 15th at SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. During their visit, Raelene and Steve Goodman will be screening the film for middle school students at Thomas Edison Charter Academy, at the invitation of principal Olivia Lynch.

Sponsored by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency, this is one of the only national awards focusing on criminal justice, juvenile justice, and child welfare issues. Life Under Suspicion is of critical relevance in the current climate of police violence in the US, from Staten Island to Ferguson. Read about the democratizing role of the film in the Journal of Digital and Media Literacy.

Special thanks to Christina Biddle for her leadership and guidance of this workshop of youth producers, to our partners at the Manhattan Borough President’s office, the NYCLU, Fortune Society, Umoja, and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, and to all our funders for their generous support. Finally, thank you to the youth and community members who courageously shared their stories.

Please give what you can to EVC so we can continue this life-changing work. Click here to make a secure tax-deductable online donation.

Thank You and Happy Fall, from EVC!
