A Retrospective of EVC Award-Winning FilmsProgram 4: Critical Issues in the Election (Between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue) HopStop Map for 144 West 65th Street Buy Tickets At the FSLC Web Site This 4th program of this extraordinary documentary series explores critical issues in this election — undocumented youth, marriage equality, youth activism and voter registration — as seen through the fresh, but unblinking eyes of emerging filmmakers at the Educational Video Center. Youth producers blend an historical overview of student and social protest movements with current testimony from outspoken youth activists. Alienated gives voice to undocumen-ted youth immigrants facing the challenges of life after high school with no options for legalized work or college. This documentary examines what it means to be young, able and “illegal” in America. Combining personal stories with historical and contemporary struggles for gay rights, students document the painful discrimination and in some cases, acceptance, that LGBT youth experience with their friends and family on a daily basis. Blending humor, plainspoken language, and interviews with friends, family, local political leaders and community activists, this engaging documentary puts a face on “the youth vote” and the importance of voter registration in the historic 2008 election.********************************************** Each program will be screened twice at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center Amphitheater (with an afternoon screening for school audiences and an evening screening for general audiences). • Donate to EVC in 2011! There Is Still Time Left!

Over this past year, EVC’s student filmmakers have tackled a wide range of issues including: The effect of mortgage foreclosures on families in Queens; Homophobia and the ongoing struggle for marriage equality; The challenges faced by immigrant youth from war-torn Liberia; and The impact of the last decade of wars on youth and their families. We have taught video to nearly 700 students in 15 schools throughout New York City, and showcased their works in EVC’s 2nd Annual Youth Powered Video Film Festival. We are proud that EVC documentaries have been featured at the Sundance, Human Rights Watch, and Tribeca film festivals, and have been honored with over 100 awards, including an Emmy. EVC’s programs provide students with transformative experiences. While less than two-thirds of NYC students graduate in four years (2010), over 90% of EVC’s student filmmakers graduate from high school and many of them have gone on to college and careers in such media companies as CNN, The New York Times, the History Channel, CNBC, Nickelodeon, the Manhattan Neighborhood Network, the Hispanic International TV Network, and PBS’s “POV” program. But we need your help to sustain this work. Please give generously to EVC and enable us to reach as many young people as we can with EVC’s life-changing programs. All your donations go directly to fund our award-winning programs. If your company or organization can help by making a contribution, please contact Executive Director and Founder Steve Goodman at sgoodman@evc.org Or Click Here to make a secure online donation with your credit card. If you would rather send a check, please make it payable to the Educational Video Center, Inc, 120 West 30th Street, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001. Either way, your gift to EVC is 100% tax deductible. We are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Thank you for being among the inspired! All of us at EVC wish you and your families a happy, healthy (and youthful) holiday and New Year!
